Tatoo artists
He was born in Pacific Grove, CA in 1971. He was an only child with a single mother, so he had lots of ceartive time on his own. As long as he can remember, he had made art, people always told him he would grow up to be an artist, from the time of his first crayon drawings until the time he started tattooing, and he always believe them.
He started tattooing professionally in 1989, with a couple yeras of experimental scratching before. He havee always been drawn to science fiction, as well as dark, morbid imagery, so when he first saw the work of H.R.Giger, the direction his artwork took was forever changed. Although the influence of giger is most apparent in his work, he fell that Alphonse Mucha's work has been equally influential. Mucha's graceful, sweeping shapes, the mix of both bold graphic elements and soft, realistic rendering, the use of contrast, negative space and dynamic color composition are all qualities that he try to convey in his own work.
Early on, he got a sleeve tattoo from Greg Kulz, who is the originator of the bio-mechanical tattoo movement. Watching Greg work on him, and studying the work he wears by guy Aitchison, was very influential in the course his work took.
In 1991 he attended his first tattoo convention in Anaheim, which was a key milestone on his career. He saw work, for the first time, that truly transcended what he thought tattoo to be aat the time. He saw how much unlimited potential there was in the medium and met many, many incredible tattooers, including, guy who he got a tattoo from at the show, and Marcus Pacheco, with whom he opened his first tattoo studio.
From the very start on his career, even the earliest experimentation, he has always been fascinated by the tools of tattoo. When he was young, his mum always gave him broken appliances or electronics or other junk to dissect and try to figure out how everything worked. He never lost this sort of curiosity and he has always been a tinkerer. He started making tattooing tools at the same time he started tattooing, and the quality and complexity of both grew together.
He is married to the woman of his dreams, Christine, and they have two bright, beautiful boys, Fletcher and Gibson. He spend most of his time these days in the workshop, trying to push the art and function of his machines, which leaves himself little time to work on the skin. The time he has to make tattoos these days has become more precious to him and the intensity and quality of the work continues tto improve.
